Sun and Suds!

May I have a bit of sunshine with my shower please? Whether it's the daddy of all versions (above) or a more intimate but thoroughly modern version below, I am thinking that this would be the perfect ending to all my garden exploits.

Walls of Windows

Walls and walls of glorious windows. Let's luxuriate in these light-filled rooms, shall we? If I had windows like these I would have little need for artwork on my walls. Frankly, I don't think I would get anything done in a bedroom like this.

Shades of Green LA

The contrast of color and texture in this Turkish Mediterranean garden is stunning. I love the hints of red from the kangaroo paw peaking through a sea of compact grass. On a breezy day, this garden would be in constant motion.

Backyard Bliss

At a garage sale a few summers ago I scored old issues of Martha Stewart Living. Many of the issues go back as far as the mid 1990's. The first thing I noticed was the beautiful food and flower photography. Then I realized there were many relevant DIY ideas like the outdoor canopies shown above. These canopies add instant atmosphere and intimacy, not too mention sweet relief from the sun, to driveways and backyards alike. I love the notion of turning a boring driveway into another living space especially if you are lucky enough to have a privacy fence or gate for seclusion. This is just the kind of excuse I need to hit the flea markets for vintage fabric and comfy lounge furniture. Both canopies were made from simple materials and can be taken down easily.
